Going to be starting to collect for my swap that should take place beginning of the year. Going to have to pull stuff myself, unless I find a cheap donor pretty soon and need as much info as I can get. I was reading all the info in the tech library and found one person that didn't swap harnesses, they just swapped the computer. Anybody else do this? Is the wiring the same minus some different plugs?

I know its over rated and been done so many times, but GO 5.0L!!! I can help with the details and getting you the parts if you want!! Pull-a-part is the place to get a motor, complete motor, harness and ECU (and possibly the bellhousing) all for $150, trannies are $50:icon_surprised:

There is a wrecked Mountaineer with a 5.0 and GT heads on CL for $900. A little more than I want to spend on a motor swap.

The YPP near Jon had a complete 97 5.0L explorer AWD, still had everything on it when I was there a week ago...it'll cost you about $260 + tax for that motor, acc, ECU and harness...

Too far. I want a 4.0 because its more of a direct swap. And easy to find parts for. If I go 5.0, then I want a donor at home to pull everything off of.

I hear ya, my donor ran me $700, I got back $560 from the scrapyard when I was done, so you will recoup about 3/4 of it...

For scrap metal? That aint bad. If it would only cost me $5-600 for the donor, I would have already been all over it. I may have to give that guy a call if I can get that for scrapping the shell. Does the 5.0 bolt to my tranny?

No, but you can get an M5ODR2 from an F150 and you will still have a stock looking standard trans, or you can go for the ZF 5 speed trans for a lower crawl gear...

Hmm doesn't sound worth it to me. Maybe later in a better vehicle. Don't think my B2 is worth that much trouble.

Ok :icon_thumby: I guess I'm still over excited about my swap and want everyone to have "The Power" :yahoo:

4.0 is the way to go when considering how easy AND cost effective it is. It makes more than enough torque to get my BII up anything, all while getting BETTER mileage than my 2.9.

My donor was a 1990 Ranger, $300.

If you find a vehicle and need help, just ask. I've done this three times now.

The easiest wiring will be a 90-92 Ranger. You can get the 4.0 from any RBV really, but I recommend getting the wiring harness from a 90 Ranger if you can find one. Makes the swap 98% Plug and Play.

My question is what do I need to keep my stock harness and not have to swap it. I'll be getting an engine already pulled from the junkyard so I wont know what it came out of (Ex, Ranger, Aerostar).

I've heard of people using the 2.9L harness, but there was a couple of circuits that needed modded/added, but I can't remember....did you try a search on that??
SVT

I found a few threads, but only one said they used the stock harness.

Try PM'ing him and asking...
