4.0 swap,bell housing,clutch?? 85 ranger

i have a 83 ranger, im taking a cab,body off a 85 cuz my old one is rusted BAD. ill be using the 85 wiring system,im picking up a used 4.0 from a 96 explorer, the trans is no good, but can i take the bell housing and bolt it up to my 5spd 4x4 trans , and use the original clutch that was mounted to the 2.8's crank shaft?????

alslo, how are u supposed to upload pics?? i got the body off my 4x4 frame,getting ready to remove trans, tcase, and get the frame sand blasted and painted, and trans rebuilt! after that i plan to drop in the new 4.0 and old trans.

Your putting a 4.0 liter on a 2.8 tranny? Not something I would do. It wont last to long.

Don't worry about the trans, that cltch simply won't transfer enough torque to break the trans before it disintegrates.

That is presuming it doens't latch up long enough for the engine to
break something else inside... the 2.8/2.9 flywheel isn't heavy enough
to keep the 4.0 from damaging itself.

85 ranger 4.0 swap, clutch,trans??help

so i wont be able to use the clutch off the 2.8 on the 4.0?

so what do i need to get or do in order to use the factory 2.8l trans on the 4.0??
i cant find a 4x4 trans from a explorer!!

i got a automatic trans from a 85 2wd ranger, will a transfer case from a 83 work on a 85 automatic 2wd trans? just curios

From what I was told...no you can not put a transfer case from a 4wd on a 2wd tranny.
