i own a 93 ranger 4.0 anyways other day I was driving and it stalled out, it fired backup and ran like crap for a few seconds. got where i was going and shut it off and started it back up ran for a few seconds and shut off. Checked to make sure no vacumme lines were off. Fired back up ran for a few seconds and shut off. Left it set for about an hour, started up fine and tried to go home and got about half way down the road and it shut off, fired it back up ran for a few seconds and shut off. Had it towed home, left it set until next day. Fired right up and left it idle for about 5 minutes backed it into the garage and ran fine. I decided to change the fuel filter, since its never been changed. After I changed it drove it around the block ran fine, next few days i would drive it around the block, ran fine. Decided to take it to work today ran fine going to work, coming home it shut off at a red light, fired right back up, started down the road and it acted like it shut off, (must have been missing) held it to the floor after a few second, it acted fine, a little farther down the road did the same thing. (anyways after three times of doing that it finally shut off, put it in neutral started right back up had to rev it up and through it in drive to get it going, after that it was fine stopped at a few stop signs never shut off, never started missing or acting up, got home shut it off and started it back up ran fine, reved it up a few times, seems fine.

Anybody have any ideas? Would be appreciated. Sorry for spelling errors and long message.

Take a look at the spark plugs if ther're gapped properly.
Also could be the coil, bad plug wires, cracked cap or rotor, or even timing.:dunno:
That my $.02

Fuel pump could be going out on you.

Replaced that about a little over a year ago, but thought has ran across my mind. Iam going to check spark plugs and wires (hasnt been to long since i replaced them too.)

One thing i forgot to mention recently i replaced the Idle control unit (truck started idling real high around 1500 and higher and wouldnt drop), also cleaned the MAF sensor and got a new air filter. truck shut off on me once after replacing the ICU and didnt start doing it again until recently.
