4.0 sohc removal

During the summer i bought a 99 explorer with a bad motor. Bought a used motor for it out of one of the local jy's.

Now to get to my ? it is the 4.0sohc motor. Where do you attatch the chains to pull the motor with?

That is what is holding me up right now.

theres a few places, iv done it from the manifold bolts, or bolt hole on the front or rear of the head.

and your 99 has a sohc? wow didnt know they made those so early.

I used a recovery strap around the engine in like 3 points

SOHC came out in the explorers in 97....but didn't show up in a Ranger until 2001.

yea it has the sohc. Bolt on the front and back of the head? I would have to have both right? like dangle the chain over both ends of the motor and hook it uo that way so it comes out level?

bennybooster- how did you use a recovery strap? care to go into any detail?

well the way i have done all of my ohv engines is to bolt one in the rear on one side, and other in the front on the other side, hook the cherry picker directly in the middle of the chain. comes out even and easy.
not sure if bolting points on the ohv and sohc are different though, best thing is to just get in there and look around.

SOHC came out in the explorers in 97....but didn't show up in a Ranger until 2001.

The Explorer Sport kept its OHV for a few years after the regular Explorer got the SOHC.
