4.0 sohc long rod

I'm new here. I have the timing chain tick, and planning on rebuilding another 4.0, to swap when the time comes.

I've heard of people using chevy 350 5.7" rods and increased compression height pistons on ford rangers. I was curious if anyone has ever used a longer rod (say 6"), and less compression height piston (say 1.2"-1.362") on any NA builds?

Issues with tuning? Block Clearance issues?

I know some folks have used the SOHC flat top pistons on an OHV configuration build.

Not sure I've seen or heard of any mods like this on a SOHC build... not that it couldn't be done.

We use to use SBC rods in VW builds. The VW crank rod journal would get offset ground for the smaller rod which would increase stroke by 2 mm or so. Essentially giving it a storked crank. But we would shim the piston barrels up to compensate for the additional stoke.

I'd be interested to hear what you do or find out.

hey, those look familiar. lol nice tpi setup Jake if your not looking for for a 4 sd tranny and start making gobs of torque, i'd say th400 or even a glide. if the overdrive is a necessity i'd say build a 200r4, nicely built will be pricey but better than a 700 IMO.

A buddy I work with built a supercharged 4.0 sohc. He used 4.0" 383 stroker pistons with the stock ranger rods. He had to hone out the small end of the rod, and install a bushing. But he has free floated pistons instead of press fit now.
