Hey guys, who here hates all things plastic when regarding engines?

Well, I really dislike the plastic valve covers on the 4.0.. I know the first gen 4.0 SOHC's had cast aluminum covers but, it looks like a lot of work to adapt then to the later model trucks.

I might be able to convince a guy to start casting and machining them. That is, if there's enough interest. The current parts he's making are very well cast and the making work is top notch.

So, let's say there's a few options like "as cast", polished & ribbed (polished ribs). Would anybody be interested and what's your price point (OEM replacement is $160+).

Please post your thoughts!

Cheers!

I've been looking for aftermarket metal valve covers for the 4.0 SOHC and can't find anything. You might think there would at least be something from 4.0 Mustangs that we could convert. I'd be willing to pay at least $300+ for a set of fabricated or cast covers. Wouldn't need any of the hardware attachment points, just a oil filler and cap.

Someone should make them out of titanium... maybe that will keep the timing chains from escaping through the plastic.
