ok guys, im going to throw my clues and see if anyone can help me, i sure need it.

today she suddenly got spuddery, threw in some super unleaded and some marvels mystery oil. thought i may have bad gas. got up to speed a while and turned back for home as it was getting worse. halfway home it got better, lasted about ten minutes and went bad again. a guy at the store heard it and said bad cats, the muffler shop drilled holes in the pipe and said cats flowing.
she blows black then gray smoke when she spudders. wanting to stall more now.

ok so i go to oreillys to pull codes, this is what i got.

koeo
codes: 159 ????
998 hard fault present FMEM mode

memory 121 closed throttle voltage lower or not same as MAF
157 MAF below max voltage
158 MAF above max voltage
556 fuel pump relay primary circuit failure

then i got these for KOER:
411 cannot control rpm low
412 cannot control rpm high

im going to clean my MAF and figure out which is the IAC and clean it too.

ill come back and check here in a bit

.

its been a bit. i cleaned the MAF and the IAC with MAF cleaner. pulled each plug wire one at a time, learned a new way to tell if they are firing, it shocks the crap out of ya.
sprayed carb cleaner lightly all over looking for a vac leak. still runs like chit.

noticed one of the two tiny wires inside the MAF looks a little corroded.

noticed if i press down on the MAF it affects the idle.

im lost. and low on funds.

only thing i can think of is go back to oreillys and try clearing codes and pull codes again.

im a frustrated and broke. on top of that my tranny is leaking and been feeling a little off. i gotta figure this out.

.

tested MAF plug wire, has 12.5 volts power and 5.18 volts from clip C to D at idle. book says power anything above 10.5 and other is like .43 to 1.76 range.

thats with it unplugged. ill try to nake a rig to test it while plugged in.

tested the IAT, showed resistance within range.

checked all fuses under hood and dash, all good.

looking for fuel pressure regulator to see if i can check for clogged fuel return line. i may cut a hole in the back of truck to access fuel tank, then i can check both fuel lines for clogg wothout pulling tank.

someone has got to have some clues for me?

fed up

ok so i learned that if you unplug the MAF and drive it around a while, the computer goes into FMEM mode, ignoring all sensors and runs on factory defaults. engine is not as efficient and milage/performance may suffer.

so i did that and it seems to run a little better.

went to oreillys again to pull codes:

KOEO still getting 3 MAF codes.

KOER: gettign one MAF code and a code for hard fault present.

right after that code, instead of going on to "press brake, turn wheel, and rev motor, it goes to connect unit to vehicle.

its like something is wrong. duh.

now, what else is connected to MAF circuit that would show hard fault present?

fixed

ok, it seems to be fixed.

new spark plug wires and a new errr remanufactured MAF she seems to be running ok.

man your lucky when my computer went out on my old ranger it was reading those codes at first then in less then 4 days every code in the book came up.
