4.0 running like a motorcycle out of gas...

I obviously said I didn't care about the looks. I don't see how headers would be bad for a daily driver, or a vehicle with emissions. Headers for a 99 Ford Ranger are going to have all of the necessary hook ups for the factory emissions equipment, biggest difference is that they are a little more free flowing. As for not being for a daily driver, well I daily drove a 1984 Ford Ranger with headers for 4-5 years with no drive ability issues. Before I got it my family drove it that way for over 10 years with no issues. I'm not so much worried about rising fuel costs, if they get that bad I'll just start riding my motorcycle more.

Did not mean to upset you, just trying to save you some money for other engine upgraades that could help you on your rebuild.

Headers do give you increased flow that stops at the cat, they are thinner in guage, rust issues in the southern states.

I own a couple of sets myself.(not on rangers) Would not put on a car that did not go over 3,000 revs on a daily basis.

This needs to go to a different thread I thought we were working on a fuel issue.

Not upset about anything. Other engine upgrades would be useless if you can't get the proper amount of flow for them. FWIW I'm not rebuilding, the engine is strong, it just needs a freeze plug and a valve cover gasket fixed.

The cats on newer vehicles are high flow cats. The flow isn't going to stop there. The only major thing that would slow the flow would be restrictions in the factory exhaust. Replacing factory exhaust will be the next "mod" I do on the truck (unless I need new tires first). Probably go with a Gibson dual rear catback system that exits on either side behind the tire.

I think it's safe to say that my engine goes over 3,000 revolutions per day. :icon_twisted:

Well ya see I have a heavy foot, it's far from uncommon for me to hit over 3K RPM going to and from work, heck even 4K or 5K isn't unheard of. I've tried to take it easy but as soon as I get around stupid drivers (every time I pull out of my drive way) I wanna get away from them. I have the same problem as my dad, we're both great drivers but can't stand traffic and idiots on the road. When either of us get stuck behind them we tend to pass as soon (and as fast) as possible and don't slow down very soon.

This needs to go to a different thread I thought we were working on a fuel issue.

We were working on an issue (my issue) with a truck (my truck) that wasn't running properly. The issue has been solved, it was a bad set of plug wires. Since this is my thread and the initial issue has been solved I chose to ask this here rather than in a new thread. Since this is where I choose to ask it this is where it belongs. If a mod has a problem with it he can lock the thread, I got no problem with it. The question will not be asked again (by me) any time soon, if ever.

Enough said.

Good luck

Glad that somebody thinks I sound like I know it all (as your post originally said), wish that were true. Obviously I don't or this thread never would have happened to begin with. I also wouldn't have been asking who makes good headers for the 4.0L. Now if you have any input as to who makes the better headers for the 4.0L I'll be glad to hear it. I don't need a lecture as to whether or not I need them. I might not need them, but I may want them simple as that.

He really told you...didn't he Tiger? No need to say anything about the thousands of hours the engineers have spent getting the FLOW in the factory exhaust to cause a vacuum puling the exhaust out the pipe! No need to say a word about larger pipes causing each cylinder to PUSH it's way down the unengineered pipes. Just thank him for his courteous response and go away.

Respectfully, this is America and anyone can bolt any attachment to their engine they want. If you read my thread I was giving advice, not law. These vehicles are designed to work in an envelope. I know I have expanded the envelope on other vehicles, but I will never endanger the lives of other citizens by its misuse or thinking other people are "stupid" or lesser drivers, this goes for stock vehicles too. Remember there are people out there, DRIVE RIGHT, and have fun with what ever project you want to overpower.

This thread probably gave all members a view of the driver next to you on the highway.

Big J sorry for offending you on your previous 30w bearing restore thread.

Buckle up and drive safely. Hope this did not offend the TRS crowd.

Catfight!

Reading this thread made me feel like someone was trying to start a fight with me at a bar.

Did the same thing to me too.

And if you read my question I wasn't looking advice on wether or not to use them, only on bransd to use.

Like yourself, I'll never intentionally endanger the lives of other citizens, that said can accidents happen whether your driving stock or modified. I never said all drivers are stupid (though I used the word idiots) there are a lot of good drivers, infact I would like to think most are good drivers. The ones I call stupid are the ones that pull out onto a 4 lane highway on which all of the traffic is doing 10 over the speed limit (let's say 55) and they pull out with very little room, accelerate slowly, and drive a maximum of 10 under the speed limit. Those are the folks that put every one's life in danger, and that describes the road to and from my work. You've also got the folks that change lanes back and fourth without ever checking the other lane and nearly running others off the road, I think you get where I'm going with this. Compared to them my well controlled driving and slight speeding does no harm. I'm constantly scanning the road around me and know where it's safe for me to go and how quickly I can move there.

Remember there are people out there, DRIVE RIGHT, and have fun with what ever project you want to overpower.
Yes I know there are people out there that drive right, and I've got no problem staying with the crowd when they're like that. And thank you I will.

Wow. I hope you are not driving tonight.

8 hours bottle to throttle.

Good luck

For starters I don't drink, and just in case you're wandering I don't do any sort of drugs (recreational or prescription).

I was going to follow my previous post by saying the following:

"289-tiger- sorry that we seem to have gotten off on the wrong foot, I'd like to give it a fresh start. Right now I'm about to go see the new Indiana Jones movie, so tomorrow starts a new day, and I hope it goes better."

But I ran out of time...

Right now I'm wandering if that's even possible, hopefully it is.

Now as for Will's post and your follow up. Sorry if you think I was attacking you, I wasn't so get over it. That's the problem with written word on a forum such as this, it's easily taken out of context. Now I do read more than one forum on a regular basis. On all of the forums I notice way to many of replies scolding the asker for wanting to do something but they've never got anything good or helpful to put in. Since I wasn't asking whether or not I should get something when I read your reply to my question it came across as well wasted space. IT was like you didn't even read the post, but just saw the word headers and went from there. When you said basically the same stuff a second time (rather than answer the very simple question) it came across more as you attacking me for not agreeing with you. I'm sorry if I took it out of context.

I am glad to hear this all worked out. I was worried because when my bikes are out of gas, they don't run at all.

Me to! So glad when it ended up just being plug wires, for a while there I was afraid it was going to be some major high dollar sensor. Thankfully I've never actually run out of gas on my Shadow, but the feeling I was referring is the same one that lets me know it's time to switch to the reserve.

Some people always have to have the last word ;)

Will

Well now, after a comment like that I can't exactly let you have it can I. :D

-Josh

P.S.: So anybody got suggestions for a good brand of headers for the 4.0?
