4.0 retrofitted with a distributor?

What are you guys, ex-NASA engineers :)

Redundant systems???

Murphy's law, whatever can go wrong will go wrong
Addendum, and at the worst possible moment

So carrying spare parts just means that part will NOT break, BECAUSE you have a replacement, so really a waste of money and space

A spare tire is as far as I go, and only because its too much trouble to lower it down and take it out, and then I would have to find a place to store it, lol

I was born in the US of A, and "planning" is Communism, plain and simple, charging ahead without a plan is the American way, doesn't always work out the best, but I'll be darned if I will become a Commie over a "possible" bad Coil
Adapt.
Improvise.
Overcome.

Im pretty good at roadside engineering. But unfourtantly somethings just cant be made to work with a good stout weed and a bottle cap.

Yes, thats the Spirit, lol

Can't wait for the day my automated vehicle breaks down
It Sends out a wireless signal to closest 'parts store' with possible problem codes
Parts store Drone brings out the "possible" parts needed
And the automated Triple A truck shows up, installs the correct part, sends the other parts back
(or I fix it myself with supplied parts)
I get billed for parts used or covered by warranty, rest of the parts go back to parts store by drone
And am on my way

I like the idea of a "parts drone" we need those NOW, lol
Any where there is cell coverage I could get parts I needed, even 100 miles from parts store, need better drones, lol

I do not like that idea. Lol.

Mainly cause the cost would be outta sight.

John Deere does that. Idiot light comes on, alarm sounds and dealer calls wanting to know if you want to bring it in or have them come out.

Ive heard thats why alot of farmers are hanging onto their older stuff, DIY field repair is a thing of the past.

Kinda shitty when one little 5 dollar, 2 bolt part grounds a piece of machinery for a week during harvest.

Newest tractor Dad and I have is a 1967 IH 706 for a reason. Other two are a 1939 and a 1962. Other than blowing heads off the D282 on the 706 once every few years, we never have problems. Even then, we've gotten fast at head replacement on it. F*ck the newer stuff.

I got an old 48 farmall cub and my dad an old 8n ford.

I see no reason to spend 20k on a new sub compact to accomplish the same shit these do.

There are no HUMANS involved, so cheap, cheap, cheap, unless I fix it, and I may give a big bill to myself, depends on how I feel :)

not sure what you mean here.

but no fuking kidding i will keep a starter and fead when commuting 24 hrs one way to work and more then one spare tire....sometimes i drive 24 hours or more straight and have had everything let loose at 2 am on a saturday..... swapping shit out is a cake job when possible. truck is purposely constructed that way. replace fead every two years.

if it is my primary transport .... 2 fuel systems on my truck due to alternative blends...and i am a dumb hill billy...not a nasa engineer.

my alternative fuel wont gel up.... pump fuel in winter otoh suks from the gas station...and i have had it shut me down minutes after pumping it and had to switch to my jump tanks to keep going at 30 below....so rusty wont get any arguements there...then i switch back to thin fuel to shut down... that is a lot of work.... but my vehicle will go far beyond anything you can buy new... and sometimes that is required.

generally i drive over 1000 miles per week....and i do not drive for a living...

redundancy is necessary.....i keep two batteries in my gas shop truck....thank god i have one of those to use up here....because i would have had to rebuild my truck two years ago.

I'm well aware of how often single coils fail, but that wasn't the point either. I've had exactly 1 COP fail on me. Didn't coast anywhere. Didn't wait 15 minutes to finish my drive.
I get it Rusty, you like old shit and you don't like new shit. That's cool. There's a place for all of us.

My diesel fires up in 20° weather just like it does in 50+ degree weather. I can't speak for anything below that living where I live and I'm good with that.

Talkin about diesels, I dd a 83 mercedes. I have been driving it for 2.5 years now. Last winter I was driving it from North-Eastern California which is basically not California. We were seeing over night temps in the single digits regularly. The o'l Mercedes fired up every time. It did take a few trys though. I want to swap an om617 into a ranger but no one makes a good adapter for a ford transmission.

Most of my smaller diesel experance comes from the GM 6.2 and 6.9 IH.

Ether lovin bastards.

With the fuel tank above the engine you must be a glutton for punishment...

BTW those things do not like ether.

Tractors are used for farming.

My old WD-45 is kind of the chuck norris of my place. Cleans the driveway, disks, plows, plants, hauls grain to town, pulls out fence/trees, truck recovery, moves truck parts brush and appliances...

And it has one 20 year old coil and POINTS.
