I traded some tools I never used and shop stuff for a 1999 explorer motor. It has a little under 100k miles and runs great. The plan is to install it in my 1994 ranger. My truck already has a 4.0 in it. What I am looking for are people opinions on a rebuild for it. My plan is to keep in relatively simple. The truck is my daily driver and I am not looking for a hot rod. I would like to make improvements where they are due though. As of now the plan is such. I want to have the motor rebuilt (new rings, bearings, gaskets, and such), install a high volume oil pump, have the heads rebuilt and have them port matched and maybe a light port. Along with the motor being installed, I would like to install headers, an aftermarket coil pack, upgraded cooling system along with an oil cooler. I am sure I am missing some things, but I am just trying to give an idea of what I have in mind. The key thing is that I don't want to have to mess with the fuel system. I would like to keep it stock with just a few bolt on parts. Let me know what ya'll think.

Thanks

dont waste your money on a high volume oil pump, just get a good stock replacement!

So.....the motor runs great but you want to rebuild it?

:icon_confused:

Sounds like a waste of money to me.

Yes, the motor runs fine. A lot of people who I have talked to ask the same question, "why rebuild". Well, The trans I just installed was just rebuilt. My truck is a 94 and my idea behind all my work is this. Put some money into this truck and make it like new. My estimate is around 5 to 6k to redo everything I want to. This is motor, trans, rear end, body, and interior. The trans is taken care of so next is the motor. I figure 5-6k in one year is still better then payments on a new (er) truck. Plus I can build it the way I want to and afford it. The goal is to build a 1994 ranger extended cab with a fresh drive train, explorer disk rear, updated brakes on the front, and then clan up the aesthetics. I want it to be slightly custom, but not a hot rod (it's a DD). If I take this motor and have it freshened up and make a few improvements how can I go wrong with what my goal is?
