I have a 2002 ford ranger edge with a 4.0 which just reached 116,000 miles and started making a rattling sound when it is running. I cant figure out where the noise is coming from but it increases slightly when it is reved up. any help would be apreciated

First off, Welcome to TRS!

Now does this sound only happen when moving or will it happen if you are revving it up in neutral? If it will make the rattling sound in neutral, find a buddy to rev it up while you look under the hood. Also it might be a good idea to give a once over to make sure everything is tight. I cant imagine your exhaust manifolds comming lose or anything but I guess you never know. You can crawl underneath the truck when its off and lightly shake things when they are cool and see if you can find your loose culprit.

Also a 2 or 3 foot section of vaccume line can act as a great way to listen to focus onto a specific part of your engine or drivetrain.

Let us know if you can find an approx area on where the sound is comming from.
