4.0 question???

Basically "aluminum flywheel" sounds "cool" when you are "bench racing"
with your buds, but actually driving with one is a far different form of reality.

Offroad use of a 4x4 truck is more like stop and go traffic at rush hour than it is anything else, start-stop-start-stop.

And each time you have to start again you have to slip the clutch into engagement.

And with a light flywheel there is FAR less margin for error with your throttle
and clutch pedal technique.

In simple terms if you have ever stalled your truck pulling away from a traffic light it's about 100times easier to stall the engine with an aluminum flywheel.

And after the engine stalls NO power is getting to the wheels.

Exactly, never use a part that will not perform in your application(a lot of variables out there and limitations for all vehicles). The flywheel in easy to understand terms stores energy that is needed at low rpm for a 4 x 4 to perform in its application. I forgot to add my platform (a sportscar) is only about 2,200 lb wet and and clutch slippage has not been an issue, once again on the street. To answer his question, yes, "Stangs" did use these for streetability on wild motors in the late '80's and early '90's but it was up to the driver to make it work or replace a lot of clutches.

Thanks AllanD, that was a good 1/4 mile run

Good luck and happy motoring
