I am swapping a 96 4.0 out of an exploder sport into a 2000 4dr exploder, the engine out of the 96 has about 130,000 miles on it.
I was thinking of going over the engine and sealing it up (new gaskets etc.) is there anything that I really should do before I put it in?

Thanks,
Brian

Yeah, do everything.

I would look at the rocker arms and make sure they don't have unusual wear. I would also pull the lifters out and take them apart and clean them. It means buying new head gaskets and bolts. I would pull the crank out and mike the bearing journals. if they are okay, put in new bearings. Put in a new oil pump. Maybe replace the timing set. I did all that to mine 10 years ago when it had about the miles yours does. Everything was worn about to the point where an overhaul without machine work would set it back to pretty good. I did not pull the pistons out because it ran really well. I was more concerned with the oiling system. It was well worth doing because 10 years on, it's still perfect.
