Is there anyone on here who has built a 4.0 OHV to preform? I know tom morona offers stroker kits, cams and such. I just wanna know if anyone has had any luck with them. :dunno:

i would be interested in hearing what works for power gains on a 4.0 OHV

a stroker kit would be the best i would think. bolt on only goes so far and some of it is really expensive for small gains.
here is a video of an OHV with "everything you can do to it" including a 422 cam

I am in the middle of a mild rebuild, 410 cam, new bearings, lifters, push rods, stock heads. can let you know how she runs when I get it back up and running.

I'm running a so called "built" 4.0L in my 91. Surprisingly little had to be done to coax out a quite a few more ponies.

I started with my stock 91 short block (160 000kms on it) installed 95tm heads (upped the compression a point) The heads & intake were port matched & given a clean up port job (very little material removed) A Comp 422 cam & some longer push rods were also installed. That's it!

With the factory ECU & program(and 87 octane :icon_confused: It doesn't like premium!!) it ran perfectly & put out the best peak #'s of 179rwhp & 220rwtq. The torque band was nice and flat putting out over 200 lb/ft from 1700 rpm to 4700 rpm(on a Mustang dyno). Unfortunately the governor on the factory ECU was only 5300rpm & the engine would pull hard until it was reached.

I've since done a total rebuild of the engine & added a standalone ECU & a more involved port job. It has put down just shy of 200rwhp & 240rwtq(these #'s were on a Dynojet) & have the rev limiter set at 6500rpm.

I put the dyno #''s down as a reference only, it's the 1/4 mile time that counts. So far the truck has run a best of 14.300 @ 95 mph N/A at an effective altitude of 5500'. I drive this truck anywhere & just a couple weeks past I took it on a 500 mile round trip. While I was at my destination I did a 100 foot dash(drag race)using a 75 shot of giggle gas. I did an auto cross event(the only truck entered!) & averaged 22 mpg(imperial gallons) Oh ... it's got 4.10 gears!:icon_thumby:

You could always put a blower on it. Relatively cheap, easy bolt on power.
