How does everyone get around inspections and emission requirement when swapping engines? I know the 4.0 might work but the numbers no longer match.

In North Carolina if it didn't come as an option it is not allowed. If it was an option you might be able to put a newer engine in an older vehicle, but not the other way around.

What do you do about getting a 5.0 Ranger inspected when the Ranger never came with a 5.0?

And how do you get the VIN to match the engine as the vehicle was originally equipped?

I should add that my truck is an 04.

Not all states are like that, thats how most of these guys get away with it. Other states have certain loop holes that allow you to reclassify the vehicle as a "custom". Just check with your DMV or State Inspector.

Thanks, I didn't think about that but it's worth a shot.

Even though North Carolina has the Most Evil DMV on the planet.

I am sure that is the reason that some people wish to build the 3.0. The mods are all internal when doing a 3.3 kit plus a port and polish.

Add some roller rockers and 40+ HP should be easy. And not detectable by the Insidious DMV.
