MY complete re-build is complete and back running. and running great. Some observations while inside the motor. As far as you guys asking how to " Soup Up" your 4.0 DONT BOTHER....the heads will flow decent numbers, but the intake is a joke 25% of the port is casting, so you really cant match port the intake to the heads, if someone made an aftermarket intake this motor would make great numbers BUT its only a single timing chain, which wouldnt last very long making big HP numbers. The cylinders were in very good condition as to only need a slight de-glaze, the crank pins were almost dead on...to .0005. NICE ! Rods & crank checked for straight and mag'ed.

I have a K&N Air induction ( Free from prior sponsor package) Dont waste your money buying one, coated headers, a little performance gain and it sounds cooler and looks nice under hood. Jet Chip (also free) cant notice much differance here either.

ALL DAMAGE INSIDE MOTOR WAS HEAT RELATED....IF YOUR ENGINE OVER HEATS YOU MAY BE IN A WORLD OF CRAP. I believe the plugged cats caused most of the damage, but I don't know what damage was done before i bought it.

I replaced the following:

Piston & Rings
Main, Cam & Rod bearings
Timing Chain & gears
Oil Pump
Water Pump
Cam & Lifters
All Seals and Gaskets
Gasket Matched Exhaust ports
Polished Intake ports on heads and lower intake
IAC
Water temp sensor

Pretty happy with it right now, it's the best it has ever idled, will run a couple tanks thru to give a MPG report.

Good deal!!! one Q tou, what cam did you put back into your build? fomoco stock or aftermarket?

If aftermarket what one and you getting any CEL?

thanks

used stock replacement cam and lifters, the only reason I did this is because a couple of the cups were broken off of the lifters....and i would never replace just one or the other....always replace both cam and lifters. its a long way back inside to do it again.

I have run it over 200 miles and no CEL WaHOOO

hmm....

The intake isnt really the issue. The exhaust ports need the work.

The factory cam is great for off-idle torque, but not so great for airflow numbers. Even if you were to p&p the heads, you not going to see much of a gain if you use the factory cam. If you wanted to "soup" up that engine, you should have threw in a cam that will actually flow some air, and then the p&p heads will become an asset.

i spent around 850.00 +/-

not sure how to add pictures

I would have added some performace parts in there while I was at it...but oh well.

This dyno sheet is comparing a 4.0L mustang, with exhaust and intake to a friends truck which has:

422 cam, intake/exhaust, head porting, headers and it ran the 1/4 in 13.427 @ 100.78 / MPH with a 75 shot of Nitrous.

Pix! i wanna see as I have a 4.0 ohv that i want to build up, and wanted to see your finished work.

i will post a picture if someone explains how to do it, cool picture too....after seeing the bottom end.....prob. better off just making the thing last as long as possible, we have other toys that have serious performance. I am just looking for something that i dont have to work on( very often)...winter time driver mostly. Like I said this is by far the best the truck has ran since i have had it...KNOCK ON WOOD.

When we saw the intake we laughed out loud....

heat was no doubt the villan here. I am sure all of the issues with this motor were heat, now!!!! it should last me until the body disappears

thank you everyone on this site you guys are awesome
