Well as the titles says that may be my next project. Now I know that they have the same bellhousing bolt pattern but read that the input shaft lengths are different from the tranny's such as the early ones run to the flywheel bearing and the later tranny's run the shaft into the cranckshaft. I know that hooking a 4.0 to a TK4 may not be the best thing but I do plan on getting an M50D from a 4.0 (yes keeping it all manual) but if Im nice can I get away with doing this. The engine is currently hooked to a 2wd auto (yuck) and the auto tranny is shot from what the current owner says. Another thing is will the computer know the difference between me running the engine on a manual tranny or am I on the look out for a manual computer for the 4.0? Im told that the engine is currently mounted in a Gen1 ranger, like what I have, so Im going to copy the wiring setup from it to mine. I know about what I will need for the fuel setup and my truck alreeady has the fuel lines on it for FI so I have that all covered. More or less I will be putting new gaskets on the engine and maybe if it needs it rebuild it. Im able to get the truck for $100 so I see this as not a bad deal. And if I do find a M50D but it has an electric transfercase will my BW1350 bolt in place of it? My TK4 has an 85 internal clutch on it (done by me) and will that work with a 4.0 clutch and flywheel and can I use a 2.8 clutch and flywheel ( I know that isnt recommended and may not go that rought).
If I left anything out plase chime me in on it.
