I have a 1994 Ranger with 4.0 OHV. I'm putting a long block in later this week. I've been looking under the hood and can locate any hooks or brackets to attach chains to so I can lift the motor out of the truck.

Where can I attach the hoist at?

Pictures would be helpful :)

Get two heavy duty ratchet straps, something rated for 1200 lb or more. Take one, wrap it around the first runner of the exhaust manifold, run the strap through the loop of the hook, and then tie it off in a double know at the lat runner of the other exhaust manifold. Take a second one and do the same thing from the opposite direction. If you did it properly the straps should make an X over the intake. That is where you attach your hoist.

It doesn't look like I have any really good pics of that setup.

The heads have bolt holes on their front and back sides that can be used, sometimes you will need to remove alternator or other brackets to use them.

Lifted a 4.0 by the intake once. .. gave me a bad leak
