I am replacing the heads on my 4.0 OHV Ranger, I pulled them from a 94 Exploder. I have a 92 Ranger. I need torque specs and sequence for the head bolts, exhaust manifold bolts, and intake bolts. I hope to do this in the morning.

Also I was told that I will need to put a dab of red silicone gasket maker on the corners of the heads prior to installation, is this true?

Only thing I can help with at the moment is the silicon, only thing I did was extra gob where head and block meet. I actually did both sides of gasket in that area. For some reason I haven't been able to find my manual so I can't help more.

This is a point of confusion for me. I have always been told to not put extra sealer on head gaskets. So I went and looked in the book.

It says to do it, but at the same time, the picture it's showing with that step is of the intake manifold.

I would say don't put silicone anywhere you don't see it while taking things apart.

You need a repair manual... :icon_thumby:

Install the heads with just the head gaskets. The silicone goes on the sealing surface of the top of the heads and block after head installation and prior to intake gasket / manifold installation.

From the Haynes Manual (93-00 Ranger):
"Before installing the intake manifold gasket, apply a film of RTV sealant around the coolant ports as well as the front sealing surface - be sure to apply a bead to the corners at the front and rear of the manifold."

Referring to the Head gaskets, the Haynes manual says:
Don't use sealant on the gaskets.

Damn, just realised I made that clear as mud. AFTER the head is on, when installing manifold use rvt (provided in gasket kit I had) where head, manifold, and block intersect. According to instructions with gasket kit. Sorry for confusion .

I have both the manual from Haynes and from Chiltons but can't seem to locate them when I need them most. Thanks for the help guys! Guess I'll be digging a little deeper for the manual(s), I really gotta have the torque sequence before I start.
