no ohv is a push rod engine

4.0l OHV just has the one chain on the front of the engine from crank to cam and the one tensioner

And never had one, or even read about, one failing or the tensioner.
I am sure it happens but certainly not a common problem with this engine

Yeah thats kinda what is was thinking. I had to get rid of my ranger a while back now looking to get another. So those 4.0 ohv engines are in rangers up to 2000 correct?

Yes. I think they ran into early 01.

Yes 1990 to 2000 Ranger will have the 4.0l OHV, 2001 and up 4.0l SOHC >> most likely

4.0l SOHC had the timing chain issue until 2005, but if 2001-2004 had the timing chains/guides/tensioners updated then they would be fine, it isn't an on-going issue, with the new parts they are fine
