I've done several 4.0 swaps and several transmission swaps but ive never run into this. Maybe this is the perfect storm or ive never done it in this combo before.

I yanked a 4.0 OHV out of a 94 Ranger 4x4 Auto and bought a yard motor. The yard motor still had the clutch installed as it came out of a manual truck. Once I got the flex plate off my old engine and tried to install it on the replacrment motor I found that there is a raised lip on thw manual crank that the auto flex plate wont fit over. Im assuming a larger diameter for the pilot bearing. Im wondering if i can grind down the lip on the crank and get away with throwing the flex plate on the manual motor and installing as normal or are they balanced differently?

I'm really not looking forward to trying to exchange this motor at the bone yard...

Did you install the flex plate spacer from the auto?

Spacer.... spacer.... no. I was unaware. Maybe because this time I let a worker do it instead of me. I let him take the old block and crank to scrap. Its gone now
