Ok so basically my 92 is a champ. or has been until now. i got out of work this morning drove it home no problems.. and when i get up and get ready to go back to work she turns over but wont start. i checked the fuel pump and it clicks on when i turn the key, and the fuel rail has pressure but i didnt have time to check the plugs or anything else. i took the wire clip out of my coil and put it back in thinking the contacts might need some refreshing. im at work right now so i need ideas for when i get out working on this thing with no sleep.. but i need to brainstorm in the downtime. any idea or past expierences?

check to see if you have spark. if you dont, its most likely the ignition control module or the ignition coil. my money's on the module, ive seen several of these go out

Hey Stevorocks, welcome to TRS! It's good to see another fellow Houstonian...

+1. Check the spark at the plug and go from there.

ICM on my '91 Ranger passenger side beside headlight 12 pin plug.

just looked it up, its not cheap but it says it can cause bad gas mileage and low power both of which i have but before today it took me all of 2 seconds or less cranking to start my truck up.. and a bad ICM causes long cranking. is 12MPG bad for a 4.0 of my year?

my '84 2.8 and my '94 3.0 both had the icm on the distributor. same on my buddys '91 bronco.

gas mileage varies depending on city/highway driving and how you drive it. yours is rated at 15/19/17 city/highway/combined, so 12mpg wouldnt be unusual for aggressive city driving. if thats highway mpg, youve got problems.

Yeah, but 4.0s don't have distributors.
