i'm newer to cars but my ranger won't start after i parked it and changed the plugs+ wires. new wires and plugs, checked for spark..it has spark, i can smell fuel, checked compression and it's good...i'm kinda confused...what else should i check?

it started fine before i parked it.

/e: Check engine light is on as well, but i have to wait for my dad to get his scanner before we can check it.

Are you sure the plug wires are all in the correct spot on the coil?

According to the diagrams in the tech section for the 4.0, yes.

On the coil, 3-2-1 side is facing the drivers side, correct? if so..yes i installed it right.

What's it doing when you truy to start it?
Just cranks over and i can hear it like backfiring or afterfiring, one of the two.

looks to me like the 3-2-1 side is on the passenger side (assuming that the thing on the right middle is a belt pulley)

I figured it was the drive to the trans...I think I'm wrong, when I get home I'll switch them
And test it

Update : Problem solved! started right up after i fixed the wires...i feel stupid :icon_twisted:

Was still missing, but there was an intake leak...just like a nipple that should've been blocked off i guess wasn't blocked off. just cut some tube and put a bolt on the end of it and voila, it's got a nice smooth idle! i need to learn to read diagrams better :icon_thumby:
