Hey everyone, Im looking at getting a muffler for my '93 4.0L Ranger right now. I use the truck as a DD mostly but I also plan to set it up as a prerunner for desert play. Right now the pipe is cut and dumps after the cat but I dont like the sound at low RPMs like this. I want something that is loud and has a deep rumble to it but not painful to drive far in. I like the sound of the Flowmaster 40 or 44's just not the price right now. Is there any other company that can give me a comparable sound at a less price?

thrush turbo or welded has a nice sound to it. if you want it to be a little throatier you might want to upgrade to 2.25" exhaust as opposed to the stock 2"

Cool! i saw these mufflers at autozone for like 40$. Ill look into it and see which one I prefer. When you said upgrade to 2.25"pipe are you talking about from the cat back or muffler back. I plan on keeping the exhaust dumping where it is just add a muffler to it rather than straight pipe.

the thrush welded will you give you the flowmaster sound (almost, little different) at less than half the price. I'm running one on my '02 with 2.5" exhaust pipe dumped right after the axle and it sounds nice.

I bought a flowmaster 40 series from ebay and had my local shop install it for 50 bucks. Muffler cost me just over 50 shipped. I bought 2.25

Thanks everyone for the info. I think I'm going to go with the thrush welded 2.25". Ill upload some pics and the results when I get it done. Thanks again :)

catback exhaust w/ a summit muffler.

unfortunately, getting good sound from rangers is like chasing the white unicorn. the best deep sound i ever got from any of my rangers was with a flowmaster 40 series. but alot of it also depends on where you put the tail pipe, no matter what exhaust you buy your going to get no sound dumping it behind the tire, but if you dump it straight out the muffler or infront of the tire i will be much more aggressive sounding

Flowmaster 40/44

Search criagslist or go to muffler shops and ask if they have any old/used ones they'd part with for cheap...

No sense in buying one new for whatever they charge these days.
