Saw quite a few threads on this, but it seems everyone has mods and bigger tires.

I just purchased a 1995 Ranger 4.0, 5-speed manual, extended cab, 2x4. No mods. Stock sized tires. Good shape, and seems to run just fine. What kind of MPG should I be expecting? I drive pretty conservative 98% of the time. Thanks in advance!

Probably 15-21, depending on the type of driving you're doing.

yeah i'd say pry 16-18

My '04 4x4 with manual and 4.0 gets between 22 and 23, with very little city driving. Mostly mountain roads and small town stuff. Of course, my old geezer driving habits probably help.

the more miles you have the lower you will get but with no mods and conservative driving you should be able to get 22 or 23 on the highway if you do the speedlimit. maybe 17 or 18 around town if you dont boot it off the line

You could get close to 10 if you tried real hard. You could also get CLOSE to mid 20's if you try even harder!

Less than 5/16 of a tank this week, and I drove a bunch of extra trips. Didn't seem too bad at all. Wasn't extra light on the right peddle either. Just rollin normal. hopefully some TLC will help out (fresh change of the fluids and filters). Maybe some plugs and wires and ?. We'll see. BTW - stripped the interior tonight for some carpet cleaning action (truck had an odor (?)). Floor pans look brand new (factory - not Maco new). Bonus

Just remember, it's a Ford. Every Ford I've owned has had a skiwampus fuel gauge. They all start out slow, and then it's a friggin' race to the finish.

My F250 is the same way. Got this so I don't have to drive it as much. hehe

Got 20 MPG the last fill up thats with half city and half highway driving up here. New wires and plugs amsoil in the rearend and conv. oil in the engine.

I noticed that with both my trucks. The first half tank i swear i could go out of state. the last half tank got sucked down like water in a desert.

When I had a 4.0 I'd average 21.4 mpg. Bone stock with 156k miles on it.

have the same truck with 4x4...

get 18-20 with normal driving
can get around 10 if i try really hard

and once i got 22 with the wind at my back, down hill, with the engine off, and me pushing it.

Dont feel bad... everyone wants a tracker to get good fuel mileage, my mom drives one, the 2 door convertible with 4x4... the thing only get 22 at best.
