Hi there I've got a 2000 ranger with the 4.0 in it. 4 months ago I replaced the lifters because I had one collapse, so I replaced them all and it ran fine for about 5,000 miles. Then about a couple of weeks ago it started to tick and the tick just kept getting louder from there on our. So I bit the bullet and started taking the engine back apart, I got to pulling push rods out and three of the lifters internal parts came out with the push rod. So long story short is there a trusted company or brand that makes 4.0 lifters for the rangers?

Did you get inexpensive lifters? Did you soak them in oil before installing them?

Weird. I've seriously abused the original lifters and they still work fine. And I do mean heavy abuse. Try to get some from a junkyard motor?

Sounds as though the lifters are like the timing chain tensioners on the 4.0 SOHC, meaning you'd be better off staying with original Motorcraft parts instead of using aftermarket.

Rock Auto doesn't have the Motorcraft version for your 2000 OHV, and I don't know whether Ford dealers still have these. The Ford part number was F0TZ-6500-A. (The character after the F is numeral zero, not letter O.) Someone is selling OEM sets of 6 on eBay right now for $84.96 with free shipping. You'll need 2 sets (12 total) to replace them all.
