So I took my bronco through about a foot and a half + deep mu hole yesterday. It got a little hot and the mud is now everywhere in the engine compartment even after spraying it off. When it starts up it has a low choppy idle as opposed to the high idle that helps it warm up faster. I did go through the hole backwards too. The wierd idle goes away after about two minutes and it runs perfect.

get under, start looking for broken stuff.

could also be moister under the plug wires on the coil i know it sounds wierd but had the same problem on a 3.0 ranger

^ he's got a good point.

4.0 doesn't have a distributor
