My credo
the grey-t escape
my stock (15 y/o) exhaust has about had it. im thinking about getting a set of headers, will it really be worth the time/trouble? the flange that bolts to the back of the cat has rusted away, its litterly wired together. its noisy at start-up and as it heats up, it tightens and isnt so noisy. muffler itself is still good. ive never had headers before. dont know if it would be a worthwhile upgrade or not.

the stock log manifolds leave something to be desired in the flow and sound department, i would say they are definitely worth the extra effort. i plan on adding a set to my truck eventually (if i can ever afford it :annoyed:).

Take it easy on the manifold bolts, they will most likely twist off flush with the head.

took about 12 hours to put my JBA headers on my 03 ranger and it said about 6 in the instructions or something...was a PAIN, but i didnt really notice THAT much sound difference but alittle performance, would def do headers if you have other supporting modifications

Headers aren't going to change how it sounds and you will be lucky to gain maybe 3rwhp-5ftlbs? on a stock 4.0, In my opinion the performace gained dosent outweigh the cost. if you have3 the money to spare go for it. Just spray the manifold bolts with penetrating oil on the bolt area where the manifold meets the head before you dig in.

headers ALWAYS change the sound when replacing the old log manifolds. if running through the factory exhaust, the change may be subtle. i love the sound of a good set of headers.

ive had header on v8s. ive installed headers on v6s and L4s they rarley change th note. Depending on the exhaust system they may have a different sound by just a little. The biggest difference in sound was a honda accord with 2.2 with full off-road exhaust.

I'd say headers definitely sound different than a log manifold. Not quite as raspy sounding. If It was my truck, I would definitely go for it, especially if the old manifold is in bad shape. Its a tedious install, very timely. Rather annoying to be patient with everything in your way.

My JBA Headers changed the sound only, no noticeable power at all :(

its a cast iron minifold but it is actually casted like a long tube design. kinda cool i guess

the exhaust tone/sound has always changed when ive put them on something...if youre just putting them on because the old manifolds are garbage and you want a somewhat different sound then go for it, sometimes they're cheaper than replacement manifolds. but it is going to be a pita to put in.
