4.0 harness help

Swapping in a 97 4.0 with manual trans into a 93 ranger. What pins on the 42 pin connector on the engine are actually needed to make it run. can i strip down the 93 engine/chassis harness down to basically the headlights and whatever else i need to run up to the 42 pin engine plug?
