4.0 Cold air intake

Spectre Performance makes a universal kit. You buy the angles you need and put it together yourself. they also have cone style filters. It looks great. You can hear the motor suckin air. It's what i did to my '91. The filter opening is between the frame rails on the driver side. It requires lenghting the MAF wires but it's worth it.

You wouldn't happen to have a photo you could send me do you?

Some of these dips just don't get it. If he wants to "dress up" his engine compartment, what is wrong with that? It doesn't make him out to be a "sucker," or anything else. With a lot of these kids, it is bragging rights, pissing contests, and bullshit sessions in local parking lots with their like minded friends.

He said he didn't want to tackle this because he was afraid of the sensors, etc. I would encourage him to go ahead and give it a try. It will be educational which is good. I still don't understand why you guys have to jump in with opinions on things you THINK you know, and show just how brilliant you are. If everybody listened to a few people on here, they would never do anything to their trucks, and everybody would be the same. I say "go for it" and get some experience.:)shady

its not really for performance but for looks and for the sound

o yeah.,..and no modification and it comes with a MAF sensor adapter too. SERIOUSLY...its amazing. And yeah. I agree with shady full on.

it sounds like its a 4x4.if so then an exposed filter in the engine compartment is a BAD idea.the only good side of the k&n is that water won't be the end of the filter.but the filter will be the end of the rings, lol.though i wouldn't mind snagging the aluminum tube from the kit to replace the plastic job.

These kits are a complete waste of money. They tell you its a cold air intake but what they dont tell you is that the stock is a cold air intake as well. In my opinion, unless your into deep water and mud, leave the stock intake for a couple of reasons.
One, its concealed more so that your actually get colder air when its stock. Where do you think the air is at a lower temperature? Right next to the engine block by the exhaust manifold with an exposed filter or behind the grill concealed. Hm.
Two, It was designed that way for a reason, one being that it helps with cold morning starts. Ever see the little tube coming from the exhaust manifold going into the stock tube? Gives it some warm air so you have faster "warm-up" time. You want colder air, take it off.
I had a drop in k&n. It did absolutely nothing but make my oil dirty.
I fabbed a cold air intake with a cone filter, It did absolutely nothing.
If your not going into water deeper than your front bumper, leave it alone. But you dont have to believe us, what do we know?

I apologize, let me correct myself. It did not help my motor what so ever.
The only upside to a k&n is you can clean then and reuse a ton of times, but compared to a paper 11 dollar stock filter, who cares.

With the potential damage a K&N will do from passing dirt & oil, and no performance or MPG improvement, stay away from them!
