I have a 86 ford ranger 4x4. I removed the 2.9 v-6 and swapped in a 4.0 v-6 from a 1991 explorer. It has a clutch driven fan. Any body know how to remove that damn thing. I am putting an electric fan under it now. I know it has a big nut and you are suppose to turn it a certain way. I do you get it so the whole engine doesn't turn over as you try to undo the nut? Any help be great. Thanks joshhttp://www.therangerstation.com/forums/images/smilies/headbang.gif

Some fans have left hand threads not sure if yours does but something to think about

It is a left hand thread. Did you try leaving the belt on while loosening fan? It usually works for me. I've also used a belt in the same manner. Wrap it around the fan pulley and pull it tight counter-clockwise while adjustable wrench on fan nut clockwise.
