4.0 and 3.0 OHV

I did at first but i would have to change to an automatic transmission when my truck is set up for a manual and 4wd the 3.0 came out of a 2wd so im trying to find another motor that is the same but another person said that the pre 93 4.0 is a different bolt pattern for the transmission so that means i would need the transmission too. When preferably i would like just another 4.0 that will work for my truck because I have already bought entire engine gasket set, water pump, brand new ac system (yes every component), New rings, cam and crank bearings. so i would like to be able to use the 700 dollars plus in parts i have.
All 4.0 OHV's used the same transmission bell pattern.

I know this is an old thread but you absolutely can put the 3.0 ohv heads on the 4.0 ohv block you will increase the compression ratio. I just put a 3.0 head on my 4.0 as that was the only thing available. The only difference is the head volume. The 3.0 has just enough room for the valves as opposed to the higher volume head of the 4.0. The Vulcan 3.0 is bolted to the same trans axle as the first gen SHO Taurus. You could run a SHO in an explorer if you wanted to. The 4.0 cologne and 3.0 Vulcan have the same exhaust bolt pattern which is also shared with the SHO so you could run a SHO with 4.0 headers the Vulcan and sho both bolt to the same trans axle. The 4.0 cologne and 3.0 Vulcan both bolt to the M5 R1/R2 so the Sho will also

ah, the bore spacing on 90-07 4.0 is 4.76"
on 3.0 Vulcan & 3.0/3.2 SHO it's 4.33"

:dntknw:

'zakly, hell, it ain't even 7/16" of an inch.
