4.0, 5-speed?

Can't find a 4.0 with a 5 speed??Where are you located? Most 4x4 Rangers are 4.0 and manual from 93 on.I have 3 of them,93 Explorer sport with rare manual tranfer case and lockouts,94 Ranger STX Reg cab with manual transfer and lockouts and I just purchased the "ultimate rare" 94 reg cab shortbed 2wd 4.0 manual Ranger with no options, even has a rubber floormat.Check out autotrader.com,that is an excellent place to find them.I actually found 4 other reg cab 2wd shortbeds within a 300 mile radius of my zip on autotrader, alot more than I expected!

Its so hard to find a 98 and newer 4.0 5spd 2wd. I would love to get my hands on one but there are so hard to find

there are two that fit a 4.0 fm145 and fm146(same) and the m5od the fm146 i had behind a 4.0 for a summer of overheated mudrunning and i still think that if the bearings would hold up in the front and rear it would be a better trans. it shifts quicker than a m
50d but it is a nightmare to rebiuld and a m5od is gravy..

I've got a '92 Reg cab long bed 4X4 4.0 5-speed. Just bought a '92 Exploder Sport with the same setup for $100 this weekend. Motor was locked up and the guy wants the tranny and case for his Ranger. I'm swapping my drivetrain to the Sploder since, as you can see in my pic, the Ranger has a wee bit of body damage. Put her on its side last fall. I've got a couple buddy's with 4.0 manuals, one is the same as mine, the other an x-cab short bed. I think the 2wd's are harder to come by than the 4X's. Try craigslist.com. If noone has tried that site out, it's an absolute mecca of parts and trucks in my area. The site is nation wide so you should be able to find what you need in your areas too. Plus, it doesn't cost anything to post on there so you are more likely to find better deals then on sites like auto trader.

4.0 sleeper truck..

I bought sweet little '95 Ranger 3 years ago as a knock-about.

The short bed 4.0 Ranger had 230,000 miles on the clock, and was real tidy. I almost didn't even take it out for the test drive when I saw the miles, and that it had a 4.0 (really wanted a 4 cyl). I came back with a smile becuse the truck drove better than other trucks I had driven with 80,000 miles.

Sold!, had a mechanic go over it and flush the brakes.

Called the original owner and asked how many engines it has had... he said only 2 brake jobs, and a water pump, a battery, and a few sets of tires.

I only drive it about 3000 miles a year... the oil is still honey gold after 3000 k at it's yearly change. The original owner said he changed the oil almost every two weeks.

The truck goes like stink still.... it's a striper...the only options ar the AM/FM stereo, 5 speed od, and 4 wheel ABS... I thought ABS was only on the rears in the vintage? I wish it was 4wd. It has the torque to haul 1500 pounds of gravel even though the tires and springs complain. I'll let you know when it blows up.
