I am looking at buying my 1st Ranger. It is suppsed to be a 1993 they said.

It is a white stepside with an extended cab. It is the 4.0L 4X4 and a 5 spd.

It also has the big front bumper that looks like black/gray plastic with the 2 round eyes with lights in them. It also has the 2 tone paint scheme with white on top and gray lower half.

I wanted to confirm the year they made these and also if this is a rare combination.

Also how hard is it to swap the stepside bed with a standard bed?

The stepside is only 37 inches wide and I need the wider box to put an ATV in there.

Yo,
The easiest way to tell is to open the driver side door and look for the door tag, usually on the door, or the cab, right near the doors latching mechanisim. The manufacturing date should be there. I do not believe they ever made a flareside bed in anything older then 1993, so its at least that. Another thing you can do is run a carfax report, most dealers will run one for you if you are serious about the truck.

As for the bed, i believe it will swap right over. It should just be 6 or so torx (i want to say 55 or 60 size, but dont hold me to it) head bolts. The only thing that might have to change would be the gas tank fill neck, you might have to get that from the doner truck. However, i have never done this myself, so i am not speaking from experience.

the beds are a direct swap.... as stated the only thing you are going to have to do is swap the filler necks also..

What years can the beds be used from and I know this is quite vague but what would a decent bed from a wrecker cost?

Any 93-08 bed will bolt up, however I think the body lines will only line up with a 93-97 bed.
Personally I never cared for the extended cab stepside. Looks better with a regular bed.
Nothing there is particularly rare although the 4.0/stick combo is not real common.

i spent 600$ for somebody to buy/purchase/deliver me a bed that had 0 rust holes but thats for a '91 the newer beds should be more plentiful with less rust

I have a 93 stepside bed on my 92. I did not have to change the filler neck and the body lines don't line up. I bought it for $750 4 years ago. Frames are the same from 83-97

wow i got one that i picked up a step side for $250 and they threw in a tail gate for free...now i am just lookin for a newer reg cab short box ranger to put it on.or may put it with my 87....after i get rid of the 302 for a 4.0..but hush about that swap...dont want poeple to know
