I've been on several Ranger forums for several years now and decided I want to swap a 351w out of my 89 F-250 into my 1990 Ranger. I've heard of people having issues making them fit, but I'm not too worried about that. I just want to know what everybody else that has done this swap has used as far as motor mounts, trans mounts, wiring, etc, etc. I've swapped v8s into other v8 cars, but never gotten to do this in depth of a swap. Any help is appreciated. And yes, I have used the search function, but search functions on forums are junk to me.

Swapping in the 351 is just the same as 302/5.0l except for the usual header selection problem. Have to consider the extra power and heat generated. Same mounts and wiring.

Ok. Thanks. I thought it should use the same mounts as 302 since they are basically the same thing, but I wasn't positive. Should I be able to use the mounts from the F-250 or not?

The mounts between a 351w and 302 are definitely the same. The mounts from an '89 F250 what I remember will not work. I pulled my 351w out of a '89 F250. My mounts were garbage so I went with stock mounts and made adapter plates

As far as the swap goes, I have multiple problems. If you go efi the intake will be too big and it will hit the hood. The accesories on the front stick out to far and can contact the radiator. There really isnt much room for the exhaust manifold on the drivers side.

I already have a 3" body rise on the truck, so top clearance shouldn't be a problem anymore right? And some of the accessories won't be staying. The A/C is going away also.

I have put carbureted 351 s into a couple of first generation Broncos. Just about as easy replacing with original. The 351 is taller (about1&1/2 inches) and wider. I had to put a bubble or scoop for hood to clear carb. I do not remember if the 1989 F250 was fuel injected or carb. If it is injected you have a lot of work to do.

It's fuel injected. Shouldn't the body rise get rid of just about all of the clearance problems? If not, I was planning a cowl hood anyways.

I have a 2 inch body lift on mine and it barely clears a lighting lower/explorer upper intake. Pretty much the shortest intake combo. Also header clearance is tight, I'm making my own. Front accessories are tight but it just depends on how far back you mount the motor. Made my own motor mounts, tranny mount and headers

You have any pics of the custom mounts? and how much difference does that intake make to the motor? Is there any power gain or loss from it? I'm just wondering because I have considered throwing on a carb or a totally different intake setup if I have to. I do want to do a mild build on the motor while it is out.
