:icon_idea:Does anyone know if the explorer 5.0L tubular exhaust manifolds will work on a ranger 351w swap:icon_confused:

Not to sure on how they will fit but if you are going to try to make any power with that engine I wouldn't use them. Second I'm not too sure about the amount of room around the spark plugs with those manifolds either. Being that you have a 2wd you will have some room look into a set of decent headers. Performace Products will have a set that will fit in a 2wd.

I wouldn't use 302 anything on a 351.

They are the same block, but that's about it.

There are some things that interchange. Valve covers and exhaust manifolds are one, heads do with some work.

Explorer headers/manifolds are not very highly thought of on a 302 though, let alone on a 351W.

Dunno how they compare but 351Ranger years ago stated he used 289 manifolds on his 351W because they hugged the block tight.

about similar things with the block is the bore diameter, timing cover and valve covers. Heads can interchange with some modification. From what I remember correctly 351 ranger had a set of homebrew log style manifolds on his. I have seen plenty of manifolds that work. I have heard early bronco manifolds work. If you want manifolds it is honestly its best to wait til the engine is in. Find a junkyard that will cooperate with you, take a few manifolds and see what fits. I went though quite a few manifolds til I found ones that fit what they were off of I don't know they were on a shelf. I tossed them anyway because headers are the way to go. If you desire manifolds you need something that is very tight to the block and aims reaeward.

I am not sure I even want to know how long ago that it was I read he did that, it is likely he changed it at some point.

For the record, it's not the same block...

no not so they are both from the windsor block family. the only differance is a 351 as a bigger stroke, taller deck, and a bigger oil pump.:thefinger:

they look like they have more room around the spark plugs than my homemade header does and that they might be farther from the steering. i'll get some photos of my 351w on here so you can see what i'm talking about.

Sure, exactly the same. Careful with those fingers.

my older brother who is a ford tech said they would flow just fine and they would have just as good performace as a header on a stock 351w. and i saw that you could buy them fairly cheap and most headers that would work for my swap that i have found are around $300 or more. and i thought this might be an easyer way than just making your own headers or paying big bucks for some headers that someone made for around $100.

Not trying to get into a pissing match.

And I clarified for the sake of someone unknowingly searching this info.
I'm fully aware of the similarities and differences. The taller deck height means intake manifolds are different, for example; Oil pans are also different. And header fitment... Anyway...

I don't know if the collector on the Explorer manifolds would clear. But it you have any interest in performance, one look at those manifolds and you may choose a different route. They are very tiny and pinched off.

Further example of what Teddy means by "pinched off". The insides where the tubes "merge" is really bad for flow also. I have never saved a set but tossed them out. The cast iron ones have to be better but - will they clear it being a 351?

Just a goofy lookin' header, I have never heard one spoken of in a positive way.
