I have one each of thses stock 351C blocks, DOAE-L and D2AE-CA. Are the parts interchangeable? Are the cam shafts, pistons, and crankshafts the same or is one or the other a better performer (hp) ? I plan to build my engine from the best of these parts with empahsis on hp. I'll be ordering new parts, just wanted to know which block to order for.

Were either engine a 4v?
The DOAE block would have had better pistons. If both blocks need to be bored, It doesn't matter. The blocks are basically identical. I don't have a book to tell me what the numbers were though.
There are many aftermarket cams available, even truck cams (351m/400 cams fit). Modern cam profiles are much better than factory ones.
The biggest problem with the cleveland is in the cylinder heads. CHI (Australia) makes the best ones. They produced the cleveland for many more years there then they did here. Factory Australian 302c heads are much better than any American head. You could also spend the big money for Edelbrock heads. The stock heads can produce about 450 hp but, It's pretty tough.
The Cleveland isn't the best choice for a 4x4 though. Ask me, I know. I prefer H.P. to torque so It works for me.

:D

:DUmmmm, you might want to rethink that 450 figure. I'm absolutely certain Bob Glidden was doubling that figure back in the late 70's in his ProStock motors. Granted the heads were mucho modified, but he WAS using stock castings. :3gears:

Thank you for the information.

I was talking 2bbl castings. It is a stretch to get 450 from the 2bbl castings but, it can be done.

bob glidden............dont hear that name much anymore...........he was my hero back in the day...lol.
how mant titles did he end up with?
sorry to hijack...

The DOAE-L is a 1970 block. The D2AE-CA is a 1972 block.
