i just picked a 351 cleveland 2V with edlebrock intake and holley 2 barrel carb for 50 bucks at my neigbors. when i build my truck is it safe to keep the original rears front and back or go with ones from like an f150 and shorten them and also what gearing ratio would be best for the truck if I swap rear ends out?

Questions that need to be answered before anyone can help:
Why are you doing this? Cheapness and availability of the engine and truck? Speed? What are your goals for this truck?
Is the Ranger going to be a 2wd or 4wd?
What kind of transmission are you going to be using?

If you read his 2nd run-on sentence, you will see "rears front and back". So I assume 4wd.

A lot of new found aftermarket support/interest in the 2V engines. I wonder if TrickFlow has a lower intake for the 4V Cleveland that will fit the EFI Box R upper. Though I imagine a single plane manifold with an EFI elbow would work as good if not better; if there is such a part for the 4V engines.

Explorer axles are a near bolt in, the front actually is and the rear needs new mounts. Ranger D35 fronts are the same as the Explorer but less common. If you take it easy you can get by with what you have until you get to it.

Make sure it really is a 351C and not a 351M.
