Im wanting to swap in a 351 and a C6 into my 86 ranger. I know the C6 will not fit without some sort of firewall mods, which is fine, because I plan on going to the 1320 with it. I have already bought a built 351 complete motor, all I need is a 650 carb for the street and a 850 for the strip. the truck will be down for awhile so i dont really mind as I have another truck to drive. any pointers to make the swap easier? The interior will be gone, only a race seat and gages, maybe a radio :D

I saw a 87 ranger run low 12's with a 302 and C4 this past weekend on a 10.50 tire and weighed 2700 lbs. This inspired me to do this swap. :icon_thumby: Plus my little 2.9 is on it's last months with just over 272k miles on it.

The C6 is a solid and stong trans but it robs more power then a C4 trans making your truck slower in the 1/4. A C4 is a little cheaper to build and will handle all the power and torque that you can through at it with a few minor upgrades. We have a C4 behind a 408 that makes over 800hp (dyno'ed proven) and it works flawless every time. Dont get me wrong I like the C6 but like you know its bigger and takes more to make it fit and it just sucks up more power so you get less at the tire. PA performance transmissions are Guaranteed forever and thats a hard deal to beat.

Understood. Where in Q.C. do you live? I work off of Ocotillo and Crismon at Bartling Enterprises.. Live in SE Chandler.

I'll look up the C4's, thanks!

I am out here off of Hunt highway and Gary rd. I have a bunch of SBF parts and misc. things so if I can help you out let me know......Mike.

2wd dragrace truck?

:dunno: whats to say? :dunno:

4 link the back, drag shock the front, and hack it up to put the engine as far back as possible.

c4 was already mentioned if you want an auto with a sbf....

and dont put a stack in the bed

Nothing wrong with a built C-4 for sure. Just saw the spec's on the newest Cobra Jet, built by Ford, with the blown 5.4 and they are using a C-4 and a 9" rear end. Hondarider, just throw up some questions.

yea a 2wd drag truck...

and how well do C4's hold up with a 396 on the bottle ? I dont want to put a C4 in it because it's cheaper and easier, A c6 will work with some modification, but will be damn near bulletproof. My coworker has a 386 in a 53 ford with a c6 and runs 10.0's with it, so I think a C4 is good, but a C6 is better, correct?

Nope, no stack for the ranger, only for the 12 second lowered 4x4 :icon_thumby:

a c4 in 4x4 applications over 4000 pounds are pathetic.

2wd, they work good drag racing...there is a point in power...700 or so where they dont make sense and a c6/glide/th400 become the better option.

personally i would use an aod.
