Right now i get about 500kms or 310 miles on a tank of gas with the 30 inch tires, i wanna go with 285/75/16 which is a 33, anyone run these and know what kind of mileage they get on a tank?:yahoo:

I personally don't..I'm sure other's will chime in with their experience. Just remember though when you are calculating your own that the bigger tires will throw off the speedometer and so being will throw off the odometer, so your mpg calculations will be thrown off..something to keep in mind before spending all kinda money on gears and stuff.

How you drive has a tremendious effect on fuel mileage, especially when you you are running larger rubber. The type of tyre also makes a difference. My b2 does better mileage with the mudders on than it does with the a/t's. this is probably due to the fact that the a/t's put a lot more rubber on the road that the mudders . I did not notice a huge difference but I drive easy. my explorer has 3:73's and the b2 4:10.

i work in a tire shop actually when you put bigger tires on your truck your odometer spins slower so if it says you went 300 on a tank of gas you actually driven further, but your mileage will only be better on the highway and that's because your motor is turning less rpm's but in town stop and go you might loose mileage due to the increase in rolling resistance form the weight of the bigger tires!

Just remember the difference in tire size and compute that into your trip before making your mileage calculations... larger tires makes your odometer AND speedo show less than actually traveled/speed.

Few of my friends have '08 4.0's with 3.73's and 33's. It's livable. Not ideal, but livable. 4.10's would be alot better. Tire change is more noticeable in manual trans trucks. Marie's '08 is 3" bodylifted, prekeyed, and on 33x12.50's and she's seeing about a 17mpg mixed with 50/50 city/hwy. Where it sucks is around town. But anyone's mileage would suck around town. And for what it's worth, on your 08, you'd need a decent torsion crank to fit those 285's in there.

And you can't really go by 'miles per tank' because everyones location is a little different and that light comes on on different times with everyones truck.

i have 33s with 3 73s. while you can get by, i would suggest regearing. there just isnt the power there that there should be. I havent used fourth or fifth gear in i dont know how long, it sucks. So while it is managable, I am getting about 350 km on a tank, but thats all in city. Oh, and mines 5 speed.

Yeah I agree, it's livable, but that clutch isn't going to last as long as you'd hope. For auto's, that tranny's going to be feelin' a lot of stress as well.

I had 32's on my old Sport Trac with 3.73 gears. It was a dog and it didn't help the gas mileage at all. Just make sure to recalculate your miles traveled when you figure your gas mileage. Based on the speed displayed on a radar sign at a toll booth I regularly use, I figured my speed and miles were off by 10%, i.e. I was traveling 10% faster than the speedo showed and also traveling 10% more miles than the odometer showed. But then I lease my trucks, so I didn't regard that as a bad thing. :icon_thumby:

I have 33s with heavy steel wheels, 3.73 and 4.0. Highway 16-17, town 14 or 15. Your 5th gear at 65mph is about 2300rpms. 3.73s suck but if you drive the highway, its probably the best milage you will get with 33s.

i know its not a ranger but i run stock 3:73's in my chevy and im turnin 35's with a v6.im thinking i get around 14 mpg when conditions are perfect
