33s on a 28 spline

I am looking to move up to 33s and 4.56 gears. Should I do a 31 spline exploder swap or can I get away with my current 28 spline 8.8?

Ran 35's with a locker and 3.55 and 4.56 gears on my origional 28spln 8.8, zero problems in 3 years with that set up.

i daily drive 33s on my 28 spline. no problem.

Ok thanks for the input guys. I just didnt wanna have to spend the extra money on a new axle and give up my current 28 with a locker...

FWIW Chris, Sunk blew a shaft in his locked 28 spline 8.8 with 4.56s and 33s, granted he had it under an Explorer too..

well you can break any rear
i broke a dana 60 on the road in a 2500 and was not beating on it
i think he just wanted to know if it was worth upgrading
