33" tires too much for stock drivetrain?

Hi y'all. I just bought an '04 Ranger 4X4 and like most of y'all I want to go bigger on the tires. From what I read on this forum, 33's would work nicely with a 3-4" lift, but what I'm wondering is will the stock drivetrain on my truck be strong enough to do some mild/medium off-roading with 33" tires? No lockers. Just wondering if the axles and all on my truck are beefy enough for tires that big. Thanks in advance for information!

with the right gears an tire combination you should be alright.. the rear 8.8 will handle them just fine.. iam not to sure what the front end has i believe its the 'live" axle set up.. again you should be alright.

33s are fine on the front but not much bigger than that. if you had lockers, 33s would be pushing it. as destroyer said, the 8.8 in the back is fine with those.

Yeah, your bigger worry will be your axle gear ratio.

If you have the 4.10s, you should be OK, but 3.73s or shallower will make your truck more sluggish with 33s (and can hurt your MPG more, too).
