08 sport with 16x7 rims and stock 255-70-16's. about 2 inches lift in front and 1.5 in back. was told i could fit 32's with little or no rubbing. got these figures from a conversion chart. opinions needed on which would be best for me given my current setup. or any other size not listed. i dont really want much performance loss. 4.0 5speed auto 4x4 with 373 rear. and will any or all of these fit my rims? sorry, rookie when it comes to tech stuff. and any brand recommendations would be a bonus. :icon_thumby: thanks

but they will fit? its less than a half inch wider than stock. does that present a problem in terms of an increased risk of tire blowout or something of that nature?

No you should be fine to run them without blowing the bead, they have enough of an aspect ratio to let the tread lay flat on the pavement without having to air down.

And since they are only .5" wider you shouldn't have to worry about that either. The height is the only thing I can see that would be a problem, if it rubs a little then it will more then likely rip off your fender flares or so I hear.

...or so I hear.

LOL

I've seen people run 12.5" wide tires on stock 7" wide wheels without problems. Not that I would do it but if you're mostly doing street driving with some mild offroading I don't think you would have a problem with any of those tire sizes.

BF Goodrich makes some good All Terrain and Mud Terrain tires, I've had both (not the newest styles, though) and been happy with them. Depends on how aggressive of a tire you want. You could also look at Super Swampers if you wanted something really aggressive for mud or rocks. I've had a set of Dunlop Rover RVs and thought they were ok, they also make a mud terrrain that I probably would have purchased last time but I got a good deal on my BFG MTs. I've also looked at Cooper tires, they seem ok too for a mild mud terrain, a friend of mine had some but they seemed pretty loud but he said traction was pretty good.

What do you want to do with your Ranger?

mainly just want it sitting a little higher. have done some offroad in moab with my last ranger. havent had this one out there yet but plan to in the future. just visually inspecting the space i have in the wheel well makes me think i could fit the 265-75-16 with no rubbing issues and perhaps the 275-75-16 since its only slightly wider. probably talk to someone at the tire shop and get their opinion.

You could just take it to a tire shop and have them test fit some tires for you, they would be more then happy too if it means you'll buy tires from them (which you don't actually have to do you just gotta act like your going to).

I had a stock '97 Ranger and I had the tire shop test fit 32s for me and decided it wouldn't work without modifications and ended up going with 31s. So you can find tire shops that are willing to help you out like that.

tire guy says 265/75/16's no problem on my 16x7 rims. narrowed my choices down to goodyear wrangler duratrac and hankook dynapro atm rf10's. anybody got any final thoughts before i go and make an $800 dollar mistake im ready to listen. :icon_thumby:

Are either of the tires made in the USA? If one is I would chose them. If both are (unlikely) I would chose the Goodyears.

I had 265/75-16's on my old Sport Trac. With a torsion twist they fit fine. It had 3.73 gears also and was a bit of a dog with the taller tires.

I believe Goodyear may be made in the USA, But Hankook is a Korean company.

The AT/M Dynapros look good but trust me that is one big mistake there... Go with the Duratracs, people seem to like em and they look good in my opinion.

why is that exactly? ive read nothing but good reviews on em. tread depth isnt quite what i want but most people seem to like em. probably go with the duratracs, but exploring all my options. :icon_confused:

The tire shop I worked at sold them... they were always blowing out and or seperating, beads tear easily on them, and some times they aren't made right and are noisier then most M/T's
