My brother is lookin for more aggressive tires for his 06 ranger base model (coil-spring suspension). Just checking out craigslist and hes finding tires here and there to put on the stock wheel. He found a set of EDGE stock wheels hes gonna call about tomorrow too. I found someone selling 31/10.50/15 "mud tires" (im assuming he means all-terrains judging by the pics, or mud terrains).

A few questions...

-how will the 2.3 d-tec run the truck with 31s?
-will the stock EDGE rims fit right on the base model with no backspacing issues or anything like that?
-will the 31/10.50/15 wheels fit on the stock base model rims fine? What about the stock EDGE rims?
-Will the 31s even fit without needing a lift or anything like that?
-Are coil spring spacers safe? Ive been told to steer clear of them. Was looking at them to level the front end of the truck with the rear but id much prefer lift springs. What springs would be needed?

thanks for any help, guys!

those rims will fit no problem. my mom has a 03 base model with those rims. they are 15x7 vs the steel ones(15x6) so it will look deff better.

what gearing the truck has? i assume 3.73 if 5spd or 4.10 if auto. both setups work good with 31"s, aslong he doesnt pretend its a race truck.

the tires may fit without lift, but it will rum like a sob. so i would recomend u a 2" block for the rear and a 2" coil spacer for the front. that will give u the 4x4 stock height.

coil spacers are safe. i have em on mine and never had an issue. aslong u wont go jumping dunes its fine.
the best way is to get upper control arms made for lifting, but thats expensive. using lift coils will be as if u put spacers. some coils will give a harsh ride, while spacers wont affect it that much.
remember to get 4x4 specs shocks for the front at least. or it will be constantly hittin the shocks travel limit, and thats annoying.

and please, please post pics!

i hope this helps. :icon_cheers:

Yeah it is a 5spd. So they will rub alot or will trimming be enough to clear it? Guess he may want to stick to what he originally wanted (30s) but right now we're preppin his stock rims to paint them black :)

What would be the correct size coil spacer for the front to level it with the rear?

and as requested, pics. Well, 1 pic and ill post another after rims are painted.

trimming would me cutting down the mud guards, and thats not a good idea.
if u go with a 2" lobk on the rear a 2" coil spacer will do. the max u can get of lift on the front is 2". if u want more ull need to replace the upper control arm.
for leveling a 1" spacer would do.

30"s will fit without issues.

awesome thanks for the info. Hes only interested in leveling the truck right now so a 1inch spacer it is!

but i thought other types of lifting wasnt just upper control arm based. Coil springs and spindles also provide lift (spindles being the best choice) from what i gathered.

yeah spindles are one of the best, but ull need to get new rims for those. since backspacing is an issue.

31's will fit on a stock height ranger my 05 Ranger is sitting on a set of 31x10.50's and looks a hell of a lot better i only get a little rub if i am turned all the way and mashing the gas peddle, and my stock rims were 15x7's but they are a different pattern than the ones you have though.
