I got an 2006 ford ranger with a 3" torsion lift in the front and 1.5" AAL in the rear. I know I can fit 305/70, but I was wondering if I could get away with 315/75 size tires?

my 08 fx4 rubs a bit on the corners of the fender on a lock to lock turn with 265/70/17's with alittle more b/sing i could get away with a 285/70 or possibley the 305 but i doubt it without rubbing:icon_pepsi:

i doubt it...thats a 35'' tire there buddy.
To fit 35's on a late-model you will need a 4" suspension lift plus a 2" or 3" body lift.
Also know that the late-model front end isn't that strong and not happy with tires larger than 33". Parts like CV joints, halfshafts, wheel bearings, and tie rod ends.

yea thats why i said...i doubt it. it would take a 4'' suspension lift to clear 33's nice on my 96.

how is it a 35'' tire? 315 is the width, 75 is the height. so how is that a 35'' tire.wouldnt he beaskingfor a 35/12.5/15 or something to that affect if he wanted 35'' tire? please correct me if im wrong. and go easy. i am an invalid

315 is the width. the sidewall is 75% of that number high and on a 16" rim:

315/75/16= 34.6 x 12.4/16

yea thats about as close to being a 35'' tire as you are going to get without running an actual 35'' tire.

yea i know 315 is the width. one thing i dont get though how come his 315/75/16 is going to be a bigger tire than my 235/75/15. if 75s the hight wouldent it be the same size???? thats what i never got. i mean it will be a little bigger because of a 16'' rim vs. a 15'' rim

The second number is the aspect ratio. On metric sizes, the height of the tire is listed as a percentage of the width, not the actual height. It the tires above, the height of the tires is 75% of the width. On a 235/70R15 tire, the height would be 70% of the width. 75% of 315 is bigger than 75% of 235.
