ok so i am still just rying to figure out what i want to do to my 94 ranger, and was kinda thinkin i want to drop a 302 into her. I have found a cheap 874x4 f150, 302 5spd. I just dont know what all i will need. Do i need the tranny and transfer case from the f150. I will be getting a local shop to do the swap and they have done a few 302 swaps into a 2wd ranger but never a 4x4.

O and by the way dont know if it matters but my truck has a 2.3L with a 5spd.

Man, I hope you have deep pockets. I wouldn't want to pay for the hours it's gonna take to do that swap.

Just take both vehicles over to the shop, and let them handle it.

They'll need everything.

Yeah the whole f-150 Drivetrain will work; its what I'm doing. But yeah that's gonna be a expensive labor bill. Think tech library says 40+ hours. I agree

Well i already went to the shop and asked how long and how much $$ it would take. they told me about a day and a half and around $800-$900, thats less then what i was quoted at for a tranny rebuild so between the 2 i think im goin to have to say v8 swap.

Sorry man, there is no shop on earth that can do a V-8 swap in a day, even if they had 20 guys working on it.

The wiring alone would take more than a day.

They clearly have no idea of what they are talking about, and the best advice I can give you is RUN!

WOW sorry guys i really fawked up, it was the 4.0L swap that was goin to take a day or so, the 5.0l they said would take at least 4 days. Ya after reading my own post i realized how stupid it sounded.

4 days. 8hrs per day. At least $65/hour. Probably 2 guys.

Only $4200 plus tax, parts, and shop fees.

You may want to do it yourself...

get the whole truck for a donor rig

save your money

read every v8 swap thread you can find on all the RBV forums

tackle the job yourself, in your backyard.

Ya i think if i decide to do the swap i will try and do it myself, well putting the motor in at least, me and my grandpa could easily do the motor swap but i dont know about the wiring. I think i still might need the shop for that.

Don't forget that you'll also need to swap the tranny and transfer case, as well as modify the drive shafts.
Read the swap/build threads.
A V-8 swap is no walk in the park, and a lot more complicated than you might think.
On the other hand, a 4.0 swap sounds like it would bve more up your alley. It'd be a good project for you and your grandpa.
Then you can do the V-8 swap in the future, after you have some more experience and $$$.

Good luck,

Good luck,

4.0 swap won't be a walk in the park either, he will still need a different transmixer.

The F-150 would have most of the stuff he needs.
