I am brand new to this and am wanting to swap my V-6 with a V-8. Can I use a 1999 Ford Explorer 302 V-8 5.0? My vehicle is a 1986 Ranger. I have the engine, tansmission, transfer case, wiring harness, and computer off of the 1999 Explorer. If I can use this setup, what else do I need?
Thanks for any tips you can give.

The tech library and this section don't describe or tell about how to do it. v8 rangers dont exist, but it's a his thing to talk about.

Yes it's possible, as said a bit of searching will help you out.

So what is the best and easiest conversion for a 1986 Ford Ranger? I am looking to upgrade to a V-8. I am willing to consider a carburated engine.

The library has a ton of info on the subject. It will walk you through step by step. i personally think its easier to do it with a carbed engine but a injected can be done it just takes up more space and alot more wiring. i used a '80 t-bird engine and it dropped right in. It's just the oil filter you have to relocate. The tbird engine even has the double hump pan. Is your truck a 4x4?

It would be better for you to use an ecu from a late 80's to early 90's f series truck as you can use the 2.9l engine harness. The 99 explorer uses a returnless style fuel system and PATS, 97 and earlier rangers use return style fuel system and no PATS...Welcome to TRS:icon_thumby:
