302 Swap oil filter. Is there a short one that will fit on the block?

Exactly how much swearing can I do on this site?

I spend the dough on good hydraulic lines. Fittings with the appropriate threads for my relocation adapters. 3500 psi lines ought to be enough. 90 degree spinable fittings on the filter end and straight in on the engine end. The adapter at the engine comes out at 90 degrees so it's great for clearance. Should have put the spinable fittings at the engine end though. Anyway I've got them in,,, but now the engine adapter has a tiny crack where the fitting goes in. :bawling: SO I'm going to clean it up and use some friggen JB weld. If anyone is curious about the cost, the 3' lines with the fittings installed about $90. NO hose clamps! It was a little hassle putting it in while installed in the truck but not undoable. AND after a second look at the area involved, the PH16 wouldn't fit. Go figure. I just had to try for myself. Thanks for all your input guys. I'll try to find a pic of the adapter I have. I've got to find another anyway.

JB weld is going to leak. :icon_surprised: I have seen people try to fix oil pans with that (just imagine under pressure) just not work. Your best bet, is to drop the steering box and replace the adapter. Leaks suck

JB Weld.

I have a feeling your going to be right Psyco, but my inner retard says to try it. I can clean the area and apply it with out removing anything so it can't hurt. Hopefully it'll at least work until the new part comes from Advance Adapters. Until then it'll be marking territory. Damn, I need some :beer::beer:

I'm going to call Advance Adapters Monday and see if I can get just the engine block part of the kit if the JB weld doesn't work.

Look at different brands, I got a Perma-Cool 2791... which no longer seems to be available.

Other guys make them though.

If you get it really clean JB would probably work if you didn't have to tighten the fitting there. I have a hunch it will just split again when you snug down the line.

Flip the thing 180*.

Also, many brands make those adapter pieces. Lots of cool looking options out there.

Flip it 180? You still have to put something in the cracked port. :icon_confused:

I was implying that you may be able to instal the plug more carefully than the hose.

Never liked NPT in some applications, this is one of them. Give me a good SAE straight fitting with the "O" ring for positive sealing and ability to adjust. Maybe like Teddy said, flip it 180 degs and JB weld the fitting in? Still don't like that option. I was able to use an Opel GT filter in my Courrier SBF many, many years ago but it was so small, changed the oil every 1000 miles. Good luck! Use some good hoses and a good adapter plate.

Flipping it 180* will do absolutely nothing to fix the crack. That will still be there and still leak. You could try plugging it from the inside with JB, but why take the risk when you can buy a new fitting for $40 (vs $1000 or more for a new motor)

Wow, didn't realize there was still some activity on this thread. I glued it and it seems to help. But I am going to replace the adapter with the Transdapt unit. It's just like what's in there now and I'll be a little more careful installing the hose. Flipping it could work with lots of JB, but I just want to fix it right the first time and not take a chance on the problem coming back. Thanks guys!
