OK i have been searching and searching for a straight answer for this but everything i find isn't for my year truck or if it is its about he 4x4 version.

I have a 2005 3.0L v6 ranger with a manual trans and RWD. It is regular cab with the least amount of options available to it. I also have a built 302 engine i was gonna put into a mustang but cant find the shell i want.

From what i've read and to my understanding:
I can drop the engine in easily with the explorer 5.0L engine mounts. the wiring can be a pain to get the speedo to work. and i might need to get an auto trans from an F150. I can use the explorer wiring harness and ecu and i should be all set. I dont think my truck has PATS or ABA or any of that fancy stuff so i should be all set... but is the speedo the only thing that wont work if i use an explorer ecu and wiring harness?

cant someone help me out here and let me know what needs to be done to get this to work?

Very few have done that new of a Ranger. After 2000, wiring changed quite a bit. Best example would be Hoosier who did a '05' 4x2. You're correct in that the speedometer is big problem.http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133149
No problem using a T-5 trans either, assuming you can get the speed signal from there. You can't use the Explorer mounts without changes to them. RangerSVT might be another one to help out with wiring and mounts.

I was also told that it is illegal to swap and obdI engine into an obdII car. unless its carbed. If i carb the engine then i wont have to worry about any of those electronics correct and i just have to worry about fitting the engine and tranny in.

Does the 302 use carb/distributor or EFI/electronic?
So do you need a computer at all?

Yes, stronger transmission and even drivelines/differential would be recommended with the added torque from a "built" V8.

Computers are different for automatics and manuals.
If you were to pull the computer and drivetrain from a 5.0l explorer you would be all set.
So a rolled/crashed parts car :)
Front end collision on a 4x4 explorer usually totals it and takes out the engine so purchase price is minimal.

Dakota Digital makes "universal" interfaces for tachs and speedometers, these can be used if a simple(cheaper) solution is not available.

the engine i have is all ready to go for efi. but i could buy a carbed lower intake and carb it that means i dont have to deal with the electronics. and my truck is RWD not 4x4

If you have inspections in your area, it's extremely unlikely that you would pass with a carbed 302.

located in CT. i dont think we have inspection just emissions every 4 years until the car is older than 25 years.
