302 EFI died and I can't figure out why!

Thank you for your tips so far.

For the record, I am spraying gasoline from a spray bottle down my intake, not carb cleaner or ether.

I am starting to highly suspect fuel pressure. I still run the stock ranger dual pump setup and I can hear my in-tank pump but not my inline high pressure pump.

This possibility jives with the fact that my motor ran fine right up until it shut down then never started again.

Is there any way I can confirm that my inline pump is dead without buying a fuel pressure tester? ($50 at my local parts house :annoyed: )

Is it trying to start when you spray it?

Heck, I'm cheap. But, I'll buy starting fluid and I own a pressure tester, too. The right tool for the job... ...! Check your wiring diagram to see how your high pressure pump is wired. Crawl under and get intimate with it while someone else turns the key to the run position. Listen to her, gently touch her (stroke her pump) - check to see if she has power and ground. But, a pressure tester would keep it from being soooo down and dirty. If you're too cheap to buy a pressure tester, then you probably don't own a multimeter - either.

Actually I do have a multimeter that I bought not long ago. They come on sale from time to time.

Right now I'm kinda sick of throwing money at stuff that hasn't solved my problem. I was damn lucky I was able to return the TFI that I bought when I thought that was the cause. As silly as it sounds, I'd rather not spend $50 only to find out that fuel pressure is ok. Work is slowing down for me for the winter and I just shelled out a few grand to buy a car that is my new daily driver so I'm closing my wallet as much as possible for the time being.

Shoulda went with a Carb.

later,
Dustin

I understand the economy and your reasoning for tightening the ol' purse strings. The diagnostic tool is never a waste, to me. But, then, I do it for a living as a USPS auto mech. If the TFI wasn't the problem, have you diagnosed it, yet?
